Hello everyone! Happy weekend!

I sure have had a great week. On Sunday, we had our monthly potluck at the Manistee Senior Center. We had a great crowd of 38 people come and enjoy some food, fellowship and conversation.

On Monday, I got some great news about my mom. We found out she doesn’t need chemotherapy, and the oncologist feels she will do fine with just a hormone after surgery. Thank you for everyone who sent a card or said a prayer; it really made her feel very special and loved.

On Wednesday, I missed Fun Bingo, but heard it was a great time. Carol Hartwig and Nancy Fortin did the calling. It was Nancy’s first time doing bingo with the crowd, and she had fun. Thank you to everyone who pitches in and helps with set up and tear down; we appreciate all of your help.

On Thursday, we had a fun Mystery Trip. We started out with Bonnie from Gene’s Ventures picking up our group at the senior center. We traveled to the most beautiful garden I have ever seen – Violet and Bill Buss’s garden. I have never seen so many types of hostas, lilies and peonies. Violet took us on a wonderful tour of all of the koi ponds and her gnome garden. Thank you, Violet, for sharing your beautiful gardens with us.

Next, we went for a great lunch at the North Country Café in Scottville. We had great food and great service. Thank you everyone at the North Country Café – your hospitality was much appreciated.

After a great lunch, we were off to Amber Elk Ranch. We went to the great gift shop, and visited the petting zoo. They had two little pigs, huge rabbits, a doe and her fawns, a donkey, a miniature horse, goats and chickens. Then we got onto a big wagon and drove off to see the elk!

The elk came up to the wagon, and we could feed them from our hands. I learned so much about elk! I never realized that they didn’t have upper teeth and that they were more like cows than deer. They have four stomachs, and they chew their cud like a cow. I could go on and on! I sure had a great time at the Amber Elk Ranch.

Thank you to everyone at the ranch for making it such a fun time!

Then we went to my favorite stop, ice cream, and then home. Thank you to everyone who went on this fun trip. I am so lucky to be able to spend time with such special people.

This week we have the Fourth of July Kick-Off Picnic at Stronach Hall on Wednesday. The party is from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. We will have Jerry Zupin catering a beautiful lunch and Virgil Baker and the “Just 4 Fun Band” entertaining the crowd.

We still have some tickets! Stop in Monday or Tuesday to pick some up.

Don’t forget! On Friday, Manistee County Council on Aging (MCCOA) offices will be closed for the holiday.

We still have a few Project FRESH coupons. If you haven’t gotten yours and you qualify for them, give us a call or stop by for an application.

I hope everyone has a great Fourth of July week, and enjoys all of the fun Manistee has to offer.

Remember to try something new!
