Arcadia Floatilla set for Aug. 9 at Lake Arcadia

ARCADIA — The public is invited to come to Lake Arcadia at 10 a.m. on Aug. 9 to become part of the Arcadia Floatilla.

Organizers expect a big display of color and an assortment of floats. The launch is located at the northeast corner of Lake Arcadia by the Arcadia Marina on First Street next to Grebe Park. This is easily reached by driving west from m-22 on Lake Street, Arcadia’s main street and turning at First Street, one block from the launch.

There is a handicapped accessible kayak launch for those who wish to use it. There will be paddle board demonstrations for beginners.

Photos will be taken depending upon the weather. Those who wish to do so can access Lake Michigan via the Aradia channel or paddle Lake Arcadia over to the Grand Traverse Conservancy marsh and Bowen’s Creek.

At 1 p.m. there will be a guided hike in the marsh led by Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy staff.

Registration is required for safety purposes. The entry forms are available to be printed at and printed copies are available at the Arcadia Post Office, the Pleasant Valley Resort Motel office and the Pleasant Valley Community Center.

The cost for the Floatilla is $10 for one person before Aug. 2 and $15 after that date. All other details can be found on the entry form.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Arcadia Historical Museum’s annual operating fund.
