POLICE BLOTTER: Two instances of theft from vehicles reported

MANISTEE COUNTY — The Manistee Police Department responded to the following calls July 16 through Wednesday. All calls might not be reported.

July 16

• A 17-year-old Dorr male was arrested for stealing personal property from a vehicle at 3:20 a.m. on Second Street near Walnut Street. Police reported to the area to follow up on a missing person report, and caught the suspect in the act. More than $70 in cash was recovered, along with other items.

• A knife was found at 9:58 p.m. at Century Terrace, located at 237 Sixth Ave.

• At 11:03 p.m., a 37-year-old Manistee man was arrested for domestic violence against a 49-year-old Manistee woman on the 500 block of Maple Street. The woman said the suspect had been on a drinking binge for a couple days prior to the incident and was intoxicated. The man was arrested with a .23 BAC.

July 17

• A 25-year-old Manistee man was arrested on a warrant after police stopped a taxi cab for noticing a passenger without a seatbelt. The driver said the man was her boyfriend.

• At 9:50 p.m., police were called to Red Szymarek Park after a citizen noticed throwing knives stuck in a tree near a swing set. The knives were recovered and placed into possession of the MPD.

July 18

• A 55-year-old Manistee man was arrested for a probation violation at 9:20 p.m. on the 900 block of Kosciusko Street.

Saturday

• A 34-year-old Indianapolis, Ind., man was given an appearance citation for driving with a suspended license and speeding on Washington Street near Quincy Street.

• At 5:08 a.m., police were dispatched to the intersection of U.S. 31 and Third Street for a male subject trying to break into vehicles. Police found him and arrested him on a warrant for failing to pay child support.

• An LG cell phone was found at 11:30 p.m. in the roadway near the intersection of Twelfth and Maple streets.

Monday

• Officers investigated a report of illegal entry by landlords at 6:39 p.m. on the 100 block of McKee Street. The report has been forwarded to the Manistee County Prosecutor for review.

• At 5:27 p.m., a gas drive off of $29.35 was reported at the Cypress Street EZ Mart.

Tuesday

• At 12:19 a.m., a 64-year-old Manistee woman was arrested for a domestic assault on her 52-year-old Manistee boyfriend.

Wednesday

• A 43-year-old Manistee woman was arrested for retail fraud, second degree, at 3:24 p.m. for allegedly stealing a $5 bottle of alcohol from Oleson’s Food Store, located at 160 Memorial Drive.

• A 19-year-old Manistee man was arrested at 4 p.m. for a probation violation at the Manistee County Courthouse for testing positive for THC and failing to taking an anger management class.

• At 5:14 p.m., a 60-year-old Manistee woman struck a deer while driving on U.S. 31 near Jackson Street. No injuries were reported.
