Blood drive to benefit youth group

MANISTEE — Tomorrow Michigan Blood will conduct a Summer Step-Up blood drive in the Trinity Lutheran church gym from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In support of its recruiting efforts, Michigan Blood will make a $10 donation to the Trinity Youth Group on behalf of each person who attempts to donate.

Founded in 1955, Michigan Blood is an independent, nonprofit blood bank that provides blood to 38 hospitals across Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. This includes West Shore Medical Center in Manistee.

Michigan Blood collects more than 115,000 blood donations each year at nine permanent donation sites and more than 3,700 mobile blood drives statewide.

The service will not only save lives, it will boost the community blood supply at a time when blood needs are constantly increasing. Anyone age 17 (and 16 with parental permission) and older who weighs at least 110 pounds is eligible to give.

Every time a person donates blood, it could save as many as three lives.

Appointments are preferred, but not necessary.

To make an appointment, contact Matt Phillips at mphillips@manistee.org, or come to the Trinity Lutheran gym at 420 Oak St. in Manistee tomorrow between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
