NANCY DORAN: New Manistee sign doesn’t pique reader’s interest

TO THE EDITOR:

This is my second letter concerning the new sign on U.S. 31, right before River Street.

This was our fourth trip to Manistee this summer (Sept. 5 through 10), and I have to tell you, every time I see that new, unexciting, blah sign on U.S. 31, I cringe.

My husband and I still believe you should re-install the original, but also promote the various events held during the year.┬áThis could be accomplished by hanging the promo signs with hooks underneath the sign. Or, you could put the “Pure Michigan” sing there and put the promo signs on each side, just below the top.

The colors of the new sign don’t bring out any investigative excitement or curiosity as the original did. In fact, you’re more likely to not notice the new sign, as it doesn’t attract attention as the original did. If you put the original sign back, it would reaffirm Manistee as being “the Victorian Port City,” which is its unique personality.

Since my husband introduced me to your wonderful town in 2005, I have fallen in love with Manistee and promote its uniqueness where ever I go. Please do your town a huge favor, and put the original sign back so others will discover, as I did, the “secret” that is Manistee.
