McLaughlin is Queen

Cathy McLaughlin, senior at Manistee Catholic Central, is Homecoming Queen this year. She will be crowned during Homecoming weekend, October 18 and 19. Cathy attended Bear Lake School through the eighth grade is the daughter of Tom and Mary Jane McLaughlin of Route 2 Bear Lake.

Willet is promoted

Patrolman John Willet has been promoted to the rank of sergeant on the city police force on a probationary basis for the next six months, Chief of Police John Leffew announced today. Willet, 26, who has been on the local police force since June 27, 1950, has been commended for promotion by Chief Leffew.

Box Board stock dividend approved

In a special meeting held by the Board of Directors of American Box Board Company Thursday at the Company offices, a 50 percent stock dividend was voted, payable November 15, 1954, to stockholders of record on November 5, 1954. This dividend is to be paid in common stock on the basis of one new share for each two shares presently held.

80 YEARS AGO

Start building sidewalks

Construction of sidewalks in Oak Hill was started this morning with a crew of 12 men employed by FERA. Materials for this project will be paid by the Filer Township Board. Approximately two miles of sidewalks are to be built.

Hunter escapes injury

The first hunting accident reported for this season took place this morning near Onekama, when Fritz Krahe of Onekama, escaped serious injury. He was treated at the Mercy Hospital this morning for an eye burn caused by a bullet.
