Onekama Guild Thrift

The Onekama Memorial Hospital Guild held its monthly meeting October 14th at Farr Center. Hostesses were Mrs. Ernest Schimke and Mrs. Charles Aultman. The meeting was conducted by Mrs. Leonard Erickson, Vice President due to the absence of Mrs. David Joseph. The Secretary Mrs. John Lemmonnier read the minutes and an excellent financial report was given by the Treasurer Mrs. Ellsworth Domres.

Club burns mortgage

A memorable event in the 20-year history of the St. Joseph Civic Club took place yesterday. Walter Janowiak, one of the founders of the club and its first president, burned the mortgage on the club building located on Vine Street.

Storm damage minor

Despite the strong northwest winds that reached 42 miles an hour in velocity about midnight, the Manistee area suffered only minor damage, a check with various agencies revealed this morning. The U.S. Coast Guard Station stated that storm warnings are up today with the wind coming out of the southwest, having changed from yesterday’s northwest direction.

80 YEARS AGO

Chief warns of pranks

The city police department does not appreciate pre-Halloween stunts and when these stunts result in property damage they must be stopped. Chief Frank Kruse stated this morning in giving out a warning to the children at the same time asking the co-operation of parents and teachers to discourage such actions.
