Poet John Rybicki hosts poetry writing workshop Nov. 7

Anyone can write a poem and John Rybicki will show you how at the Ludington Public Library on Friday Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.

The first event in the West Shore Words Poetry Celebration, Rybicki's talk at the free event will demonstrate writing techniques for beginning poetry writers to advanced writers as well.

He will also meet with teachers at West Shore Community College and students at Mason County Eastern High School.

A native of Detroit, Rybicki has authored three collections of poetry and his poems have appeared in publications including Ploughshares, the American Poetry Review and his work has been reprinted in The Best American Poetry.

When not writing poetry, he teaches the writing style at various Detroit-area high schools through the InsideOut Literary Arts Project as well as working with the "Wings of Hope" hospice, which teaches poetry to children who have suffered through loss or trauma.

The West Shore Words Poetry Celebration includes other events such as a poetry open mic as well as a performance by spoken word duo Kinetic Effect in March of 2015 at the Ludington Area Center for the Arts, a non-profit organization cultivating access to the arts. Visual poetry displays will happen through April 2015.
