POLICE BLOTTER: Police apprehend man wielding knife during MIP call

MANISTEE — The Manistee Police Department responded to the following calls Oct. 30 through Wednesday. All calls might not be reported.

Oct. 30

A male Manistee minor was arrested for possession of alcohol at the 100 block of Lincoln Street and taken to West Shore Medical Center for alcohol poisoning. While enroute to the location, officers received a report of a 31-year-old Manistee man wielding a large knife. The Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Police Agency and the Manistee County Sheriff’s Office assisted with finding the man, who had fled on foot from the location. While the city police officer was escorting the minor into a police car to be transported, the man encountered the officer, was arrested for felony assault, possession of a controlled substance and for furnishing alcohol to a minor. He was taken to Manistee County Jail and the case is pending a review from the prosecutor’s office.

Nov. 2

A 32-year-old Ludington man was arrested for failure to appear in court. The man had five active warrants out for his arrest — two in Manistee County, one in Mason County, one in Wexford County and one in Van Buren County. Police apprehended the man after an on-foot chase began near Mason Street, ending near North Bridge Auto. The man was found with his two children. He was transported to Manistee County Jail and the case was turned over to the prosecutor’s office for review for additional charges of resisting arrest and opposing a police officer.

Nov. 3

A 56-year-old Perry man has a warrant out for his arrest as violating his probation and bond. He violated his probation by consuming alcohol and failing many alcohol tests. The bond was denied after the probation violation occurred.
