Local church kicks off Sleighbell week with women’s Christmas event

MANISTEE — The Children’s Choir of the Faith Covenant Church entertained a group of about 80 women, and helped them get in the Christmas spirit on Tuesday evening.

The group of eight performed holiday skits that included singing and props. The skits paid tribute to Santa Claus, Hanukkah, and birth of Jesus and many other signs of the season.

The choir is directed by Mary Peterson. Members of the choir are Nehemiah Case, Emily Eix, Laura Eix, Lauren Hanna, Olivia Holtgren, Aurora Johnson, Ce-Ce Postma and Solana Postma.

A performance from The Chord of Three Strands women’s trio was also part of the evening. And Sarah Eix offered a Christmas devotional.

High school students planning to attend the Covenant High In Christ (CHIC) conference during summer 2015 took coats and served treats. The event was to help raise funds for their trip. Donations from attendees will be matched by the Faith Covenant Missions Team.

The conference takes place every three years at the University of Tennessee, and more than 5,000 high school students attend.

The women’s event was the first in a long line of events slated for this week in conjunction with the Victorian Sleighbell Parade and Old Christmas Weekend.
