Structure fire engulfs home on Cypress Street late Saturday

MANISTEE — A fire broke out late Saturday at a home at 212 Cypress Street in Manistee.

A call for response to the fire was reported to the City of Manistee Fire Department at 9:07 p.m.

According to Manistee City Police, it is believed no one was hurt in the fire.

“Everyone was fine when we got there,” said Kristen Goodspeed, MPD officer. “We can’t confirm 100 percent at this time if the occupants were sent to the hospital.”

It is unknown at this time how the fire was started or the extent of the damage.

Jeff Mikula, City of Manistee Department of Public Works director, contacted the Michigan Department of Transportation about a highway closure from Second Street to Fifth Street in Manistee.

Multiple rescue agencies responded to the fire.
