Bear Lake museum in the works

BEAR LAKE — The Bear Lake Area Historical Society plans to open the Bear Lake Area Historical Museum this year.

The museum will be located in the former Bear Lake First Baptist Church, which was purchased by the Village of Bear Lake in 2013. Village offices will also be in the building.

Recently formed, the historical society is headed up by Jeff Harthun, president, and Pauline Jaquish will serve as museum director.

Leadership is looking for start up funds for the endeavor. Donations will cover costs of making the entrance and restrooms compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1994, as well as electric, heating and interior needs.

Other needs include a recording system and display cases.

Through Jan. 31, substantial donations will earn contributors the designation of “founding member” and those names will be displayed in the museum with others who supported the museum from the beginning.

Those wishing to learn more about the various levels of giving, including memorials, can contact Jaquish at pj646@centurytel.net or (231) 342-7285.
