Winterfest Celebration

Some beautiful weather this weekend helped turn the 14th Annual Manistee Jaycees Winterfest celebration into a huge success. Many events experienced increased participation this year, and organizers were pleased with the response.

Dance to Band X

Homecoming Bear Lake style, Round 2, will take place at the Bear Lake/Baldwin game and after it, too, at the IOOF Hall Saturday night. This affair is sponsored by the Bear Lake Athletic Boosters Association. The celebrated Band X will play for dancing for all to enjoy.

80 YEARS AGO

Cold weather is felt again

After a letup yesterday, cold weather again made itself felt in the city early this morning and throughout the day. According to readings at the U.S. Coast Guard Station the mercury skidded to 10 degrees above zero at midnight, slowly climbing back to 18 above at noon today.

Another firm cutting ice

Another local ice firm, the South Side Ice Co. started its annual ice harvest this week cutting at Canfield Lake, where the ice is said to be 13 or 14 inches thick. About 25 men are in the crew at work, while five trucks are being employed in hauling the ice.
