Open enrollment ends Sunday

In Michigan, 311,246 people are signed up for health care coverage

LANSING — Since open enrollment began on Nov. 15, 7.75 million consumers selected a plan or were automatically re-enrolled through the HealthCare.gov platform, including 311,246 in Michigan.

Sunday marks the deadline and end of open enrollment for the 2015 Health Insurance Marketplaces. It is important for individuals in Michigan who have not yet signed up for coverage to visit Healthcare.gov before the deadline.

“There are only four days left before the Feb. 15 deadline to sign up for coverage,” said Sylvia M. Burwell, Health and Human Services secretary. “If you don’t have health insurance, visit HealthCare.gov – take a look at the plans and financial help available. You may be surprised to learn that the security that comes with health coverage is within your reach.”

As of Jan. 30, 88 percent of Michigan consumers who selected health insurance plans were determined eligible for an average of $240 per person/month in advanced premium tax credits.

In Michigan, consumers can choose from 16 issuers in the Marketplaces in 2015 – up from 12 in 2014.

As of Jan. 16, 67 percent of consumers in Michigan re-enrolled in a Marketplace plan and 33 percent selected a plan for the first time.

81 percent of Michigan Marketplaces enrollees as of December 2014 could obtain coverage for $100 or less after any applicable tax credits in 2015.

Consumers in need of help enrolling can find more information at HealthCare.gov or CuidadoDeSalud.gov; marketplaces call center representatives are available to help all day, every day at (800) 318-2596; or find help in person by visiting Localhelp.healthcare.gov.
