911 becomes test for new database

Manistee County 911 will soon become a “guinea pig” for the State of Michigan in a pilot database program designed to help emergency response units find houses more quickly. The 911 Board of Directors voted Wednesday to allocate up to $3,000 to become involved in the project, which could be completed in a total of four counties as soon as July 31.

Free-lunch counter

One of the most popular spots at the Fourth Annual Fruit & Berry Growers’ Meeting and Equipment Exhibit being held today and tomorrow at the National Guard Armory is the free lunch counter, staffed by Robert Baker, Joe and Pat Novotny. Crowds at the two-day show will be served free beans and refreshments.

80 YEARS AGO

Salvation Army workers arrive

Captain and Mrs. William C. Davis, recently appointed in charge of the local branch of the Salvation Army will be publicly welcomed during services to be conducted Sunday at the local auditorium on Oak and Water Street. Captain and Mrs. Davis arrived in Manistee from Scranton, Pa.
