LWV celebrates 95 years

The League of Women Voters Manistee County celebrated the 95th anniversary of the 1920 founding of the League on Feb. 14, 1920, by Carrie Chapman Catt, a women’s rights activist and suffragette. Catt came up the with “winning plan” to pass the 19th amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1920, giving women the right to vote. Catt started the league to help educate the newly enfranchised voters (women) about the political process. The league’s work continues 95 years later to educate, register and mobilize voters.
