Don’s Market purchased

Lee and Vi Day of Westland are now owners of Don’s Market in Kaleva. They were counselors in Junior High School in Wayne County and are interested in sports, fishing, TV, and camping. They have two sons and are looking forward to being in Manistee County.

60 YEARS AGO

Speed warning

Because of several complaints by residents of the Bryant Ave., Chief of Police John Leffew today cautioned motorists driving in the Bryant Ave., Cedar Street area to slow down at all intersections near the Jefferson School playground area where many children usually congregate.

New stamp

Postmaster Joseph Adamski today revealed receipt of 10,000 stamps at the local post office. They are three cent commemorative on “Atoms for Peace”.

80 YEARS AGO

Engel visits city

Congressman Albert Engel stopped in Manistee for a few minutes this morning to visit friends. The congressman, who is taking a brief respite from his duties in Washington, expects to return there Thursday.

Work is started

The Junior Chamber of Commerce, organized last Friday, has wasted no time in putting its activities underway, having started its first project. Plans have been complete for the placing of a speakers’ stand and an information booth at Orchard Beach State Park for the Automobile Association convention which will open August 1.
