Binsfeld in Onekama

Lt. Governor Connie Binsfeld will be in Onekama today at 4 p.m. to help celebrate an art show taking place at the Onekama Farm Store. Binsfeld, along with the president of the Michigan Apple Committee, will be judging at the exhibits for the “Apples in Art in Michigan” art show.

Coast Guard saves crew of yacht

Coast Guardsmen at the local station noticed a yacht in distress Saturday and went on a successful rescue mission, bringing in the four persons aboard. The boat owner of Menasha, Wisconsin said the group had been on a fishing trip and the yacht’s engine stopped. The 35 ft. craft, “The Dragoon” ran into a breakwall and sank. Alert officers noticed this plight and towed the craft into shallow water and salvage efforts were made Saturday.

Storm lashes city

A late summer storm, with a 50-mile an hour wind carrying a driving, lashed yesterday afternoon, leveling a row of billboards near Maple Street Bridge and causing other city damage, which for the most part, was slight. In the rural areas many acres of corn were flattened, it is reported and the amount of crop damage throughout the county is as yet undetermined.

Land added to forest

A total of 22,017 acres were added to the land optioned by the U.S. Forest Service in the Manistee National Forest by the National Forest Reservation Commission at its meeting Friday. The cost was $74,746.
