High level work

Repair workers were busy fixing high level windows at Guardian Angels Church on Monday morning. The work required some great dexterity on the part of the workers as they scaled across the roof.

40 YEARS AGO

Manistee Hardware makes improvements

Manistee Hardware has been in the process of enlarging its store space and rearranging its stock. The area to the east has been opened and the paint and houseware items have been moved there. The wallpaper display is there too and it can be shown much more effectively. The hardware, garden shop, supply and electrical items are in the west part of the area and the counter is in a central location to serve both areas.

60 YEARS AGO

Area rainfall

After weeks of an extended drought, the Manistee area was soaked with 1.20 inches of rain in the past five days. For the month of August to date, 1.49 of rainfall has been recorded as compared to only 1.11 in the month of July.

Resigns high school post

Supt. Dorr L. Wilde today announced the resignation of James Garfunkel, who had been a mathematics instructor, assistant football coach, and a member of the student guidance staff at Manistee High for the past year. Garfunkel revealed that he was accepting a teaching position with a junior college located at Brainerd, Minn.

80 YEARS AGO

No hazing allowed

Over-exuberant high school sophomores who wish to celebrate their advancement from the “frosh” class through putting the incoming high school class in its place by “hazing” will also have the city police department to contend with. Chief Frank Kruse stated this morning that many complaints have already been received by irate parents demanding that action be taken.
