SOS party planned

The many tasks performed by Coast Guard Station Manistee and Auxiliary will be honored at an appreciation celebration on Sept. 3. Rep. Pete Hoekstra will be in attendance, and the public is invited to show their support of the Coast Guard for its fine work in the community.

60 YEARS AGO

Airport work progressing

Work on the Manistee-Blacker airport is progressing according to schedule, with the runway no being leveled and prepared for the gravel base that will be installed early next week. The landing strip will be 3,600 feet long and 100 feet wide.

Beach data

The huge breakers at First Street Beach today made swimming dangerous, the air was 64 degrees and the fish were not biting.

80 YEARS AGO

All Manistee school classes to open

Welcomed or not welcomed by the youngsters of the city, the fact remains that the city school buildings are in readiness for the resumption of classes. Teachers have all returned from their vacations, and the school bell will toll its summons Tuesday morning for the city’s youth to return to another year’s work.

No mail

Because of Monday being a legal holiday there will be no deliver of mail. The general delivery window, however, will be open from 1:30 to 2:30 for general delivery patrons only.
