ROBERT LUX: Bachman would be great asset to city as manager

TO THE EDITOR:

On Tuesday, your staff reported on four candidates for city manager in an article, “Four to interview for city manager position”.

Three were fair and balanced, but Mr. Dave Bachman’s appeared to be low keyed. The writer failed to mention that he has a master’s degree in public administration. Mr. Bachman is a graduate of the FBl Academy, and as public safety director, he leads our police department, fire department along with being the Manistee harbor master.

One man does not make every decision for all of these important departments, but he does set the standard for his people to follow. Mr. Bachman has, in my opinion, grown into being a strong, honest and very approachable leader.

In the past 17 years, I have had to rely on his people a number of times. I found them to be well trained and always accountable to him.

I don’t always have to have my own way, but I do need to feel that when I have a problem, someone in this town will listen to me and try to resolve my concern. I can honestly say that I have always been treated with respect and honesty by Mr. Bachman.

We live in a great little town with a lot of big problems coming our way after years of recession. We really need everyone who lives and works here to be part of the recovery of Manistee.

I have faith that Mr. Bachman can be an asset to Manistee moving forward with all the help we can give him.
