MANISTEE COUNTY — The eighth annual Paint the Town Pink event is just around the corner.

Participants will start gathering at 4 p.m. at the west end of River Street near the fountain. A ceremony will take place at 4:45 p.m. with the walk beginning at 5 p.m.

All proceeds benefit women’s services at West Shore Medical Center in Manistee.

The event aims to raise awareness about the importance of regular breast self-exams and regular breast health screenings for the residents in Manistee County.

Several businesses in downtown Manistee have decorated their storefronts in support of the event.

In addition, new this year, pink ribbons and quilt squares were available for sponsorship as a way to honor or remember a loved one.

Each year, 600-800 individuals have participated in the ribbon walk.

While the walk is free, donations will be accepted. Donations from past events have went toward the purchase of a digital mammography unit, a breast biopsy chair and PET scan services.

The event is held each year in conjunction with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

The event will be held rain or shine.
