Filer nears charter township status

Filer Township is very nearly a charter township after its meeting this week. This December, the board voted 3-2 to pursue charter status. It then put notices in the newspaper, making known its intentions. Citizens opposed to this action had 60 days to submit a petition stating as much. The 60 days have passed and no petitions were submitted.

Speeding on Cypress

Three out of town motorists were ticketed for speeding on Cypress St. and arraigned in justice court recently before Judge Frank Russell as they city police continue to enforce 25 mile an hour speed limit on US-31 through the city limits.

Office fire

Firemen were called out at 11:58 a.m. today to the Vets Transfer Trucking Co., on Lake Street. A oil burner flooded and the flames began to burn the nearby wall, causing considerable smoke damage. The oil burner was ruined in the fire that began after the office personnel had left for lunch.

Mental clinic aids children

The mental health clinic to be held at Mercy Hospital on March 12 is not alone for adults suffering from some mental or nervous disturbance. It is also designed to assist parents in helping their children in overcoming temper tantrums or habits which if not corrected in early childhood may become fixed and possibly result in delinquency.
