OCS releases spring continuing education schedule

ONEKAMA — Onekama Consolidated Schools released the Spring 2016 Adult Continuing Education schedule.

Classes start April 4 and conclude May 28.

Beginning Karate class is for participants 5 years and up; families are encouraged. The students will be introduced to the Matsumura Seito style of Karate which will include blocks, kicks and strikes and beginner katas. Class is held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Saturdays.

Karate Intermediate is a continuation for those students who have already attended the Beginning Karate class. In this class students are introduced to more katas as well as wazas and more block, kick and strike combinations. Class is held from 6:45-7:45 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Power 60 is 60 minutes of indoor cycling, jogging, core strength training, balance and agility in interval format to heart pumping music using a wide variety of fitness equipment and even everyday items like plastic cups and tennis balls. This moderate to high intensity workout meets from 6- 7 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Indoor Cycling Plus is an intense cardio workout that includes up to 15 minutes of core and balance exercise. Focus is on interval training and techniques used in an outdoor ride. Beginners and experienced cyclists welcome. Class is held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Gentle Yoga provides the proven benefits of yoga (better posture, balance, strength, stress relief and improved mind body connection) in a modified and less strenuous form and is perfect for beginners or those who prefer a less intense workout. Class is held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Stretch, Strength and Balance are important regardless of fitness level. This class incorporates core strength training, light weight training, upper and lower body workouts, stretching and balance in a not so strenuous workout. Class is held from 4:15-5:15 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Barre and Cardio combines ballet barre exercise emphasizing stretch and strength, with up tempo music and simple aerobic moves that increases the heart rate to a moderate level. Class is held from 4:30-5:15 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

POUND! is high energy fun that doesn’t look like a workout. Using slightly weighted drumsticks called RipStix, this 45-minute percussive moderate to intense workout fuses cardio, pilates and rhythm to today’s pop tracks. Class is held from 5:30-6:15 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Self Defense Workshop introduces participants 12 years and older to self defense with a “hands on” approach. Each session will explore three to four possible scenarios with the opportunity to extensively practice defense methods to increase muscle memory. No prior experience or physical fitness requirements are required, but participants should expect light physical contact with other workshop participants in order to perfect techniques. Class is held from 10:45 -11:45 a.m. on Saturdays, April 9, 16, 23 and 30.
