Manistee woman celebrates 100th birthday

Wanda (Wresinski) Witucki of Manistee celebrated her 100th birthday on April 9, at the Bluefish Kitchen and Bar in Manistee. A party was held in the upstairs banquet room and lounge where 75 friends and family members were on hand to extend their wishes.

Elaborate birthday cakes created by Jennifer Dontz of Manistee and Angela Fletcher of New York City were displayed. Stunning springtime bouquets by Charlevoix Floral – consisting of white hydrangeas, green spider chrysanthemums, and pink roses – decorated the rooms.

Witucki was seated at a reception table which held a guest book, a collection of letters and cards, and a photo album spanning more than three-quarters of a century.

Wine and appetizers were served during the social hour, after which Judy Riccio read a tribute, “The Fabric of Mom’s Life,” co-authored by grandson Jon Riccio. Grandson Marc Riccio led a champagne toast honoring Wanda as a centenarian, eyewitness to many events of the past 100 years such as 17 U.S. presidencies, the Great Depression, World Wars I and II, the Wright Brothers’ flight, air travel, television, space exploration and the Information Age.

Following the toast, a delicious dinner, including champagne chicken prepared by Chef Howard Iles, was served. Granddaughter Dena Riccio, along with Marc Riccio, led the group in singing “Happy Birthday.” Great-grandchildren Anna and Alex Riccio assisted Wanda in blowing out the birthday candles.

On Sunday morning, Rev. Peter Wigton gave a special blessing for Wanda at a Mass held in her honor at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church. Nieces Donna Kowalski and Joan Eaton, and their spouses Ervin Kowalski and Ken Eaton, served as Eucharistic ministers.

Wanda would like to express her thanks to everyone who made her 100th birthday celebration extraordinary!
