Laker baseball

Backed by the four­hit pitching of Terry Overla, the Bear Lake Laker baseball squad started a successful road trip by defeating the Morrice Orioles 13­4 last Wednesday. Overla, a sophomore, pitched very well as he struck out in batters.

News­ Advocate photographer is award winner

Of the 14 “Achievement in Photography” awards voted in the small daily division completion for Michigan, six were won by Bob Bailey, The News­Advocate photographer. The award presentation was made at a noon luncheon today at the Kellogg Center located at MSU. Bailey won the only award for picture portfolio, took first, second and third awards for features, the third place award in sports, and won the only award voted in pictorial.

80 YEARS AGO

Progress made in bank plan

Satisfactory progress is being made in the liquidation plan of the First National Bank, it was announced today by Rev. Henry P. Knudsen, trustee for the stockholders, as signatures have been obtained for the agreement plan for some 25 percent of the deposits.
