GUEST VIEW: Now is a good time to register to vote

The following editorial was published in the May 18 edition of the Midland Daily News, Mich.

(TNS) The presidential election cycle has certainly been an interesting one.

While November is still a ways off, voters and potential voters need to know a few dates.

To register for the Nov. 8 general election, new voters need to register by Oct. 11.

But wait — there’s more.

Voters will face a few questions in an upcoming primary on Aug. 2. Voters need to register by July 5 to take part in this.

There is a wealth of information on the web about registering to vote as well as upcoming ballot issues.

We suggest checking out webapps.sos.state.mi.us/MVIC. The Michigan Secretary of State’s website offers nearly a one-stop information portal for Michigan voters.

Here registered voters can check on polling locations and look at upcoming ballots (as it approaches the election). New voters can gather information on how to become a new voter. Those interested in the election process in Michigan will probably have any questions answered here.

While we are months off from the next election process, it is important to think about registering now.

Why?

Well, simply, we want as many people out at the polls as possible come election day — every election day.
