Local weir used in study

The Little Manistee Rive Weir is currently being used in a University of Michigan study. Two graduate students and their professor from the university’s School of Natural Resources are taking stock assessments in the Manistee, Au Sable, and Muskegon Rivers. They are counting steelhead, chinook and coho smolts.

Krusniak is Miss Manistee County

Jean Krusniak, 18-year-old senior at Manistee Catholic Central, was crowned Miss Manistee County for the 1976 Saturday evening at the Ramsdell Theatre. Miss Krusniak impressed judges with her performance of the song, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” to her own piano accompaniment in the talent section of the competition. Amy Gamache, Manistee High School senior, was named first runner-up.

60 YEARS AGO

Local club gets award

The Manistee Kiwanis Club received state-wide recognition last night at its regular meeting when it was presented with the Michigan traveling plaque award for club attendance at Spring Divisional meetings.

Frozen out

Cold weather cancelled the odd or even tournament scheduled for ladies golf at the Manistee Golf and Country Club yesterday; however, the luncheon was a great success with 65 members and guests turning out for the club’s annual “Guest Day”.
