MLAP hosting ‘Fairies and Forts’ event Saturday

THOMPSONVILLE — The Michigan Legacy Art Park hosts the Fairies and Forts children’s concert from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday at the park, located at 12500 Crystal Mountain Drive in Thompsonville.

Free with general park admission, the event features singing, dancing and invites the children to create their own fort or fairy house, flower tiaras, flags and drums, according to a news release.

The works of art by David Barr are the inspiration for the theme of the event: Fairy Ring and Stockade Labyrinth.

Fairies and Forts schedule:

  • 2-4 p.m.: Create fairies, tiaras, crowns, fairy houses, forts, flags and drums. Enjoy face painting and refreshments.

  • 2:30-3 p.m.: Fairy Tales story time, presented by the Betsie Valley District Library

  • 3 p.m.: Children’s Concert

  • 4 p.m.: Parade to the fort for the annual flag raising

  • 4:30 p.m.: Art Bingo on hike back through the park

The fairy crafting will be led by Dana Goodwin, director and teacher of the The Children’s Urban Garden and Atelier, a mixed-age homeschool environment in Traverse City.

After the concert, the musician will lead participants on a march to the fort for the annual raising of the flag.

There is a cost for admission into the park for adults but admission is free for children.
