LISA GEORGE: Reader offers safety, courtesy tips to visitors

As a local resident, I would like to say howdy to my neighbors and a warm welcome to our visitors.

I want to remind everyone, vacationing or not, to be safe and responsible. I offer the following suggestions:

  • Have your children wear shoes and helmets while riding bicycles;
  • Don't allow your children to ride their bikes on roads with cars or on U.S. 31 without adult supervision;
  • Don't allow your children to light fireworks or shoot guns if they are underage and unsupervised;
  • Please always supervise your children when they are operating motorized vehicles, including dirt bikes, ATVS, jet skis and scooters. Don't allow children to jeopardize other riders and pets;
  • Please do not allow your children to cause a disturbance to others by allowing them to ride their motorized vehicles up and down the street or back and forth in the water for long periods of time;
  • Keep your pets on a leash at all times. Loose pets can dart into traffic or get scared away by loud noises. And dogs are not always friendly; and
  • Have fun but please remember that Monday night might be fireworks time at your party but many of us have to get to work in the morning, so please be considerate.
