Paetschow drops out of county commission race, name still on ballot

MANISTEE COUNTY — Of the seven Manistee County commissioner seats up for election this year, the 7th District is the only one with a contested race in the upcoming primary.

On Tuesday, voters will decide which Republican candidate — Catherine Zaring or Bruce A. Schaub — will represent their party in the Nov. 8 general election.

The Democratic side of the ticket featured Margaret Batzer and Bob Paetschow by the filing deadline, but Paetschow has since withdrawn his candidacy. His name, however, will still appear on the primary ballot.

Current 7th District commissioner Alan Marshall is not seeking re-election.

Only voters who reside in the 7th District can vote for these candidates. The district includes the portion of the City of Manistee lying east of Maple Street and south of the Manistee River.

Polls will be open on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Because this is a primary, voters can only cast votes within one party.
