MANISTEE — The News Advocate joins other businesses today in showing their support for breast cancer awareness.

The ninth annual Paint the Town Pink begins at 4 p.m. with a gathering at Cornerstone Park on the west end of River Street near the fountain. A ceremony will begin at 4:45 p.m. and the ribbon walk takes off at 5 p.m.

Participants are encouraged to dress in pink for the event and take part in the one-mile walk along the Riverwalk to promote awareness of the importance of regular breast cancer screenings.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The event will be held rain or shine. The walk is free, however, donations are accepted. Paint the Town Pink sweatshirts are available from the West Shore Medical Center radiology department.

All funds raised remain in the community and benefit women’s health services at West Shore Medical Center.
