New bridge

The opening of a new bridge on River Road over Big Bear Creek is expected on Oct. 15. Various road commission dignitaries and community members are anticipated to be present.

60 YEARS AGO

Trip to Illinois

Central Michigan College’s 86-piece marching band are taking part in the Homecoming festivities at Western Illinois today. The band will join with 50 Illinois high school bands and the Western Illinois Band in their Homecoming parade and halftime activities. Band members from Manistee making the trip are: Gary Carden, Norman Lewis and Fay Murphy.

Attending MSU game

Archie Houser, Ernest Knudstrup, Roger Greve and Lawrence Anderson left this morning to attend the Michigan State University vs. Indiana University Homecoming game at East Lansing this afternoon. They expected to return this evening.

80 YEARS AGO

Receive pipe for water line

The first carload of pipe for the water system that will connect Filer City and Oak Hill with Manistee system has arrived here and work on construction of the new line, from the top of Rietz Hill to Filer City is scheduled in a few days.

Forty six placed on job by NRS

The National Reemployment Service made a total of 46 placements during the week ending Oct. 10, according to the report of the branch manager, Jack Revolt. Of this total, 14 were placed on jobs in private industry, 14 were on public projects and 18 were in other categories.
