MCC HARVEST Glitz and Glamour a big success

MANISTEE — Anyone who walked into the Manistee Catholic Central cafeteria and gymnasium on Saturday evening would feel they took a step back in time.

Both of those areas were decorated with items making it look like an elegant ballroom and lounge from the 1920s for the 29th annual Manistee Catholic Central HARVEST “Glitz and Glamour.”

All the funds from the evening’s activities benefit the Manistee Catholic Central schools.

Co-chairs Mary Lou Racine and Kay Fortier said they were extremely pleased with the way things went this year. They said the final numbers are still being tabulated, but the feedback they received from those attending was extremely positive.

“The weather was beautiful and people really dressed up to the theme this year of ‘Glitz and Glamor’ from the 1920s,” said Racine. “Mark Fischer was gracious enough to even bring his antique car from that era up here for us to use as well. It was a real fun crowd and everyone seemed to be having a great time.”

Fortier felt the same way about the evening, and during Saturday’s event she said anticipation was running high.

“It’s exciting and it was fun to see so many people dress up tonight and the stories about how their costumes came about for tonight,” said Fortier. “These themes make that little extra and add that entertaining part of it to the evening.”

Racine said there were lot of winners during the evening.

“Our winners choice winner this year gave this person the chance to pick anything they wanted off the live auction and that was Carl Loftus,” said Racine. “The roll for cash winner this year was Father Rich Bartoszek.”

Ed and Chris Kolanowski won the Saber Bucks, while the Spirit’s Raffle winners were Jenny Howes, Chris Kolanowski and Denny Capling.

The grand raffle winners this year were Jean Rhodea, Jim Zaltowski, Eveylyn Daniels, Eric Krusniak, Donna Gamache, Mary Campbell, Phil Kliber and G. Simoneau.

Racine said on Sunday afternoon work crews were busy restoring the cafeteria and gymnasium back to its original state.

“We are still sorting through everything and cleaning everything up,” she said. “It really went well, and we are sure the biggest winners from this event are going to be the students of MCC.”

What impressed the two co-chairs was the crowd that attended the event. They said every year it is a changing crowd.

“There were lots of new faces here tonight and it is good to see,” she said.

Racine said that they will finish up closing things on the 2016 event and then focus on the future.

“Next year it is Nov. 4, so everyone should mark their calendars,” she said. “We are just very grateful for all the community support and we feel good about it. We will take a few weeks to wrap this one up and put it to bed and then start looking to next year.”
