Fernand to offer international programs at Grow Benzie

BENZIE COUNTY — Nature Explorers International programming is now being offered at Grow Benzie by local environmental educator, Amalia Fernand.

Hands-On Earth Science classes on Wednesdays include science experiments, art, games and nature walks for ages 1-10.

Nature Nights Around the World at 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturdays feature a different continent each week with related activities, a photography slideshow and a pizza dinner.

Handmade Holiday Workshops, Black Friday Day Camp, and a Winter Break Camp are also scheduled.

Fernand recently returned from living abroad, and her curriculum focuses on the native Michigan environment while incorporating wildlife encounters from her travels. She has a Master of Science in ecological leadership and education and experience with children in 17 countries on six continents.

Fernand founded Nature Explorers International with the mission to: “help children foster a stronger understanding of their environment, an excitement for learning and exploration, and a deep-set love of nature that lasts a lifetime.”

Fernand will be giving a series of free public presentations for all ages at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays, beginning with “Borneo’s Forest Battle: Palm Oil vs. the Rainforest” on Nov. 22.
