Man charged with possession of child pornography

MANISTEE — A Ludington man will appear in court next month in Manistee County for charges of possession of child sexually abusive material.

Randy John Johannes, 31, was arrested by detectives from Michigan State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) on Dec. 5 on a three-count felony warrant issued by the Manistee County Prosecutor’s Office.

Johannes was arraigned on Dec. 14 in Manistee County’s 85th District Court, and his next court date is Jan. 3. If convicted, Johannes could face four years in prison.

The arrest was a result of an investigation initiated in February by the MSP ICAC Task Force and the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation began with a report of an unrelated criminal sexual conduct complaint made to the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office. MSP ICAC detectives assisted with that investigation and discovered child pornography on property that was seized from the Johannes residence in Norman Township in Manistee County.

Johannes is lodged in the Manistee County Jail.

The MSP ICAC Task Force in Traverse City is comprised of MSP detectives, Michigan Department of Corrections agents, Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office detectives, Traverse City Police Department detectives and Antrim County Sheriff’s Office detectives.

The ICAC Program is a national network of 61 coordinated task forces representing over 3,500 federal, state and local law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies. These agencies are engaged in proactive investigations, forensic investigations and criminal prosecutions.
