Cloutier retiring

Lt. Charles Cloutier will say goodbye to the Manistee City Police Department when he retires on Jan. 17 after 32 years of service to the community. Cloutier began on Jan. 29, 1964 and was promoted to traffic safety officer in 1965 and then to the rank of detective sergeant in 1970. In 1981 he was promoted to uniform sergeant and to his current position of lieutenant sergeant in 1989.

40 YEARS AGO

Kaleva Historical Society seeks funds for marker

The Kaleva Historical Society recently approved a project for a historical marker to commemorate the founding of Kaleva by Finnish Immigrants in 1900. While nearly $400 has been donated for the project, additional funds are necessary and hope to be collected in the near future.

60 YEARS AGO

News Advocate Ski School

Among early registrants for beginner instruction at the News-Advocate Ski School, which opens Saturday morning at the Manistee Ski Area, Udell Hills, were twins Peggy and Phyllis Thorsen and Steve Thorsen. 38 county youths of school age had registered for the free, four-week ski school by early this morning.
