Manistee withdraws from school co-op

In a surprising and unexplained move, Manistee School Board voted to withdraw support from the Manistee County School Management Cooperative. With the vote, Manistee Public Schools effectively bows out of a co-op agreement with Bear Lake and Kaleva Norman Dickson Schools, designed to consolidate the three district’s business functions and certain instructional services.

40 YEARS AGO

Miller finishes fourth

For the fourth straight year a Manistee Catholic Central wrestler has placed in the state finals. Sophomore Rob Miller finished fourth in the 138 pound weight class at the Class D wrestling finals held Saturday. Overall, Catholic finished in the middle of the team standings with 17.5 points. Though Saber coach Russ Wrzesinski was hoping for a couple more medals, he was still satisfied with his team’s performance.

60 YEARS AGO

New truck for Eastlake

Eastlake Village President John Adamski showed off the new village truck yesterday outside the newly constructed garage. The new garage measures 31 by 38 feet and was built at a cost of nearly $10,000. The snow plow and utility truck was purchased for the sum of $4,000.

In the Army

A group of local young men of the county recently enlisted in the Army. They are: Leonard Schimke of Onekama; Leon Emons of Bear Lake; Charles Werle of Arcadia; Carl Nowak of Manistee; Robert Kramer of Arcadia; and Dale Maidens of Bear Lake.
