RONALD J. STONEMAN: School district offers salute to firefighter Jim

TO THE EDITOR:

The Manistee community owes a debt of gratitude to a gentle man, one who has taken an oath to demonstrate concern for others, a willingness to help those in need and to serve unselfishly.

The students, families and staff of Manistee Area Public Schools want to take this opportunity to thank firefighter Jim Henderson for his service to the community as a whole and for being the public servant who has educated numerous students through the years on fire safety and preparedness. He was also instrumental in the fire department acquiring funding through the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians and Manistee County Local Sharing Revenue Board for a mobile fire safety structure to take to the schools for demonstration and education.

His enthusiastic support, friendliness, respectfulness and knowledge has endeared him to the students and staff, and, because of his stature, the students have truly looked up to him on many levels.

The MAPS Board of Education, administration and staffs salute and thank firefighter Jim for his passion to inform the students and wish him well in his new role in Beulah.
