Happy Easter! I hope you have a blessed weekend and have some special plans with family or friends. This Sunday is very special. Our family will not only get together for Easter, but our sweet Milo will be baptized. Here’s to blessings, love, family and the Easter Bunny.

The Senior Center has been really hopping this past week. I am never surprised anymore how much we can accomplish in a week. Last Saturday we hosted our Spring Craft Show, and there were so many beautiful things. Thank you to all of the crafters. I hope you did a lot of selling and thank you to the public for supporting this great event.

Our wonderful tax volunteers had their last tax day on Thursday. This year they had less days, less volunteers and a whole lot more seniors who needed their taxes done. I have to give a big shout out to the tax gang for a great year. Thank you to Shelley Green, Bill Tod, Barb Czarnecki, Mary and Gerry Haw, and Cathy Helmboldt for everything you do for the seniors in Manistee County and for the Manistee County Council on Aging.

April is County Government month and we had Sheriff John O’Hagan come in and spend some time with the seniors for our White Elephant Bingo. This bingo, the seniors bring in things they no longer need or want and everyone takes someone else’s surprises home. I find that everyone brings in some pretty cool stuff. John did such a great job. Everyone loves when he comes in. He is pretty carefree and fun and really relates well to everyone. We had a couple of fun things planned for this bingo. We did some special games around elephants. One of the winning tables each got circus peanuts to take home. Another game was “an elephant never forgets.” John said three words that had something to do with elephants throughout bingo and someone was called on to see if they could remember the words. John did such a great job with this and really made it entertaining. Thanks John, for everything you do for the seniors in Manistee County.

We also had city council member Dale Cooper at the Senior Center for “Lunch with a Council Member.” This was another great time! Dale knew so many people that were at the Senior Center and visited and made himself available for questions and sharing information. Thank you Dale for spending time with us.

Carol Shively from the Manistee County Library did a Book Bingo at the Senior Center. They sent so many beautiful books to use as prizes and it was so much fun. Thank you Carol for everything you do for the seniors in our county.

Something I don’t remember mentioning last week was the new chair yoga and hatha yoga. We have George and Mary Ann who are volunteering their time and talents on Friday afternoons for these classes. If you have been wanting to try something new, stop in and give it a try.

We have a fundraiser coming up on April 25 at the VFW. Jerry Zupin and the Divine Mercy Parish’s Men’s Club will be cooking, and Butch Baker and the Just 4 Fun Band will be doing the entertaining. We have some great raffle prizes and everyone, not just seniors, is welcome to join in on the fun. Tickets are available at the Senior Center.

There are also two raffles going on that I think everyone may be interested in. The Victorian Quilters Guild donated a beautiful quilt and Sue-Lee Charters donated a fishing charter for five, if either of these prizes or if both of them sound great, remember to stop by the Senior Center to pick up your raffle tickets.

I promised more info on the Tigers trip. On June 29 we will be heading to beautiful Comerica Park to watch the Detroit Tigers vs. the Kansas City Royals. The trip includes transportation, ticket, a hot dog and a pop at the park. If you want more information, please give us a call at the Senior Center, (231) 723-6477.

This week we have the 3Ds in for Toe Tapping Tuesday. On Wednesday we are celebrating April Birthdays with a beautiful cake that is donated by the great folks at Meijer. Thursday, Felicia will be in for the eyeglass clinic. We sure love it when she comes in. She is so helpful and sweet. Thanks Dr. Veach and Dr. Allen for offering this great service to the seniors in Manistee County. Friday is our monthly food bank. All Manistee County seniors 60 and over are welcome to participate.

Make sure you check out the weekly calendar so you can see if there is anything fun or interesting you would like do this week.

Have a great week and remember to try something new!
