Onekama adopts schools of choice policy

Schools of choice is a reality for Onekama Consolidated Schools. The board adopted a schools of choice policy at the Monday board meeting at Arcadia. The Manistee Intermediate School District agreed that 4 percent of a student population could increase or decrease if a school in the ISD decided to adopted schools of choice.

Hughes promoted

Century Boat Company of Manistee has announced the promotion of Edwin Hughes to production manager. Hughes joined Century in 1972 working the pattern shop until 1973 when he was promoted to supervisor of the mill. In January, 1977 he became assistant production manager.

Elks Lodge to honor youth

Exalted Ruler Raymond Kiefer, announced today that the Manistee Elks Lodge again will recognize the youth of Manistee County at the “Elks Youth Day” celebration to be held at the local lodge on May 1. The present plans call for a dinner to be served at 6:30 p.m. Following the dinner the guests will be entertained with a variety program.

Has record out

Among recent releases issued by the Chicago Records, Inc., is one offering Frank Baker doing the tenor vocal of “Baby Doll Waltz” with orchestral backup by Eddie Wojcik’s Jolly Five. The recording is cut on both 45 and 78 rpm discs. Baker is well-known here, having been born and reared in Stronach.

80 YEARS AGO

Finds dandelion

The well-kept lawn at the Water Works has yielded the first reported dandelion blossom of the season, which was discovered this morning by Margaret Nelson, 454 First St.

Achievement Day

Manistee County’s annual 4-H Achievement Day will be held at the Manistee High School on April 20. A total number of 200 boys and girls are finishing their clothing, handicraft and hot lunch work 323 handicraft exhibits and 349 clothing exhibits will be on display at the gymnasium.
