The Legacy Gala, which begins at 6 p.m. on Aug. 4, is the signature fundraiser for Michigan Legacy Art Park. The event takes place in the Crystal Center at Crystal Mountain and features a silent auction, sparkling wine reception, locally-sourced dinner, live music, and the presentation of the Legacy Award.

The Legacy Award honors those who make a significant, positive impact on Michigan’s arts, history, culture or environment. Doug and Anne Stanton will be recognized for their significant contributions to Michigan including their own prolific writing, vision for building community through literature, and commitment to sharing a love for writing and reading with the next generation.

Past recipients of the Art Park’s Legacy Award include Gene Jenneman and the Dennos Museum Center (2016); the founding members of the Michigan Legacy Art Park Board of Directors in recognition of the 20th anniversary of the Art Park (2015); George Zimmermann and the Pure Michigan campaign (2014); David Barr and Beth Dwaihy-Barr (2013); Bob and Jane Holdeman (2012); Gov. William and Helen Milliken (2011); George and Althea Petritz (2010); and the Tuskegee Airmen of WWII (2009).

All event proceeds benefit Michigan Legacy Art Park, a sculpture park in Benzie County dedicated to sharing the stories of the people, events and natural resources that continue to shape the legacy of Michigan. With over forty contemporary works of art, the Art Park provides a rich cultural experience for thousands of visitors annually.

For school children, the sculptures serve as inspirational starting points for learning history, geography, science, language arts, and environmental studies. Every fall and spring, teachers from area schools bring their students on field trips to the Art Park — a place where their textbooks spring to life through the sculptures they discover while exploring nature.

Sponsorships and reservations are available online at michlegacyartpark.org/events or by calling (231) 378-4963.

Michigan Legacy Art Park is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit located on a 30-acre preserve leased by Crystal Mountain for $1 per year. Michigan Legacy Art Park features 49 outdoor sculptures that celebrate Michigan’s culture and history along nearly two miles of wooded hiking trails.
