Heroin recovered in Benzie County bust, two arrested

TRAVERSE CITY — Two Benzie County residents were arrested after authorities found 14 grams of heroin during a traffic stop.

Traverse Narcotics Team detectives on Wednesday received a tip about a “large quantity” of heroin that had been picked up in Detroit by suspects and was being driven back to Benzie County, according to a press release.

Detectives located the vehicle near Crystal Mountain and Benzie County sheriff’s deputies pulled the vehicle over and made contact with the two suspects who are believed to have been dealing heroin in the Benzie County area, the release states.

In a search of the vehicle, authorities recovered 14 grams of heroin and a small amount of cash.

The driver, a 25-year-old man, and the passenger, a 19-year-old woman, both of Benzie County, were both arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to deliver heroin, possession with intent to deliver, possession of heroin and using a computer to commit a crime.
