MYRA LAUTNER: Lighthouse Pregnancy Care Center wouldn’t exist without help from community

TO THE EDITOR:

As I look upon the anniversary of the Lighthouse Pregnancy Care Center, I am filled with gratitude for the community of Manistee.

A group of committed individuals felt God leading them to have a place of refuge for women in an unplanned pregnancy, where they could receive assistance through their pregnancy and beyond. It was through this leading, Lighthouse Pregnancy Care Center opened their doors in a renovated house on Parkdale Avenue, on May 15, 2004.

The community came together, offering their talent, their time and their financial support. Community members brought donations of diapers, wipes, formula, baby food, baby clothes, maternity clothes and other baby related items. Girls and women started coming, not only to receive material goods, but also found a safe and caring place to unravel the complexities of their pregnancy.

Without the community of Manistee, Lighthouse Pregnancy Care Center would not able to serve the girls, women and men who need our services. The individuals, churches, organizations, agencies and businesses sustains LPCC.

We not only believe that God has guided our journey (and continues to do so), but the community of Manistee brings the needed funding and material items to serve their people. When I think of what Manistee has done for our ministry, I am humbled. To know I belong to a community which takes care of each other is phenomenal. In a world where everyone is at odds with one another, it is gratifying to know the essence of community.

We have grown through your support, with the land contract of our current building on Maple Street, we have added programs and classes to serve our clients better and your material donations have helped moms, dads and grandparents get through some tough times. We have had over 3,000 clients visits, clothed over 700 children and have given out approximately 300,000 diapers. And it is only through what this community has given.

Thank you Manistee, for your generous hearts and for believing in this ministry. With your help we can continue to be a light of hope for our community.
