Manistee Catholic takes first at home

MANISTEE — Manistee Catholic Central won a non-league tri-meet on Thursday against Bear Lake and Onekama, while all three teams are looking to prepare for the fast-approaching regional finals.

The regional finals will be on Wednesday, May 31, but Thursday’s play on the back-9 of Manistee National’s Canthooke Valley gave the teams another look at the course.

The Sabers won handily with a team score of 175, followed by Bear Lake in second with a 208 and Onekama in third with a 214.

MCC had the four lowest scores on the afternoon, starting with John Slivka, who medaled with a 36, Preston Picardat with a 45, Nick Bialik with a 46 and Jacob McComb with a 48. Nick Hansen also shot a 58 and Barry Seymour shot a 60 with non-scoring efforts.

The Lakers were led by Yuki Babinec with a 50, Kyle Fink with a 52, Trevor Pargeon shot a 52 and Jonah Hengy shot a 54. Tai Babinec and Lucas Leffew each shot a 64 in non-scoring efforts.

Onekama’s leaders were Nick Falk with a 50, Kyle Peterson with a 52, Tighe Pepera with a 53 and Dalron Gray and Ben Johnson each shot a 59.

Bear Lake will be back today in a dual meet against Frankfort at the Crystal Lake Country Club, while Onekama will be back on Monday at home against Manistee at the Heathlands and MCC will be off until the regionals in 12 days.
