Forest Festival raffle tickets

Forest Festival raffle tickets are now on sale. According to Forest Festival Raffle Ticket Chairman David Ohman, only 1,000 tickets will be sold. Ten prizes of $500 each will be awarded at the drawing at 5 p.m. on July 6 at the Festival Tent in Douglas Park at First Street Beach.


Turner to serve church

The Onekama Congregational Church held an open house reception for Douglas and Linda Turner on June 11. The was an opportunity for members of the congregation to get acquainted with the Turners. The service on the following day was given by Douglas. A vote was taken after the service and he was accepted as the new minister of the Onekama Congregational Church. The Turners are from Avon Lake, Ohio.


Band awarded money

The usual summer concert series by the Manistee Iron Works band was assured last night when the city commission at its regular meeting voted to appropriate $1,500 from the city advertising fund for the band’s services. Provision for a band fund was made in the annual budget last fall, but no definite figure was set.

Sunday parking courtesy urged

Courtesy in Sunday parking by local motorists has been requested by a number of River Street business firms, Chief of Police Frank Kruse said today. Managers of these concerns which do business on Sunday have complained that many local auto owners park their cars on River Street after the parking restrictions have been lifted and remain in one spot for hours, watching pedestrians. Their cars, sometimes, and parked directly in front of the firms handling Sunday trade and customers, as a result, cannot find parking space.
