Konickis hold important VFW posts

Marie and John Konicki of Manistee are very busy with affairs of interest to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Manistee and they were both in the spotlight at last week’s State VFW Convention in Grand Rapids. Mrs. Marie Konicki was installed as president of the 12 District VFW Auxiliary as Junior Vice Commander for the VFW of the State of Michigan.


 Main parade is viewed by large crowd

An estimated 40,000 spectators jammed River and Division streets yesterday morning to view the featured event of the three-day Manistee National Forest Festival, the floral parade that included 10 snappy bands and 16 beautiful floats, with the weatherman coopering with the temperature in the low 80s. However, the threatening weather that became obvious from 1 p.m. on and was climaxed with high winds and a heavy shower at 4 p.m., did hold down the attendance of the afternoon events.

Local scouts off for jamboree

Ten local Boy Scouts from the Scenic Trails Council who will attend the Fourth National Scout Jamboree at Valley Forge Park in Pennsylvania for 10 days will report at Camp Greilick on July 6. They will leave for Detroit on Sunday at 6:45 p.m. on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad’s “Special Train”.
