MANISTEE — Cloudy skies and pending rain storms did not stop eleven teams of golfers from supporting FiveCAP’s 13th annual Golf for Warmth fundraiser event at Manistee National Golf and Resort on Aug. 4.

Luckily, the rain held off until all golfers completed their rounds and were under the big white tent.

The event featured a 18-hole scramble followed by a live auction and raffles, with a variety of items donated by area businesses. Nearly $6,000 in funds were raised for FiveCAP’s Walk for Warmth program which provides the agency the ability to help families in Mason, Manistee, Lake and Newaygo counties who fall through the cracks of qualifying for state or federal programs or when heat assistance funding is unavailable.

“This program is a safety net to help people pay their heating bills during the cold winter months when they are in dire straits and other programs cannot assist them,” said FiveCAP executive director Mary Trucks. “Many of these households have young children and their safety is at risk.”

Event sponsor Watson Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge-Ram of Benzie/Ludington/Manistee provided a hole-in-one prize with the opportunity for participants to win a new Jeep Renegade. Regrettably, the car was returned to the dealership when no one managed to accomplish the feat. However, Frank Lewis received the closest to the pin prize.

Little River Casino Resort sponsored the grand prize of an overnight stay package for each member of the winning team. A blind draw was necessary for the first and second place teams as both scored 59 points.

Taking home first-place honors was the team of David Hoeh, Jarrod Howes, Larry Lynch and Nick Kolanowski. The second place prize went to the team of Jim Ogilvie, Mark Niesen, Tom Kaminski and Jim Golembiewski who each won a 18-hole round of golf at Manistee National Golf and Resort.

DTE Energy again donated a stainless steel grill for the grand prize raffle, which was won by David Hoeh.

FiveCAP accepts donations to the Walk for Warmth fund year-round. For more information, or to make a contribution, contact the agency at (231) 757-3785 or visit the website at www.fivecap.org.
