MANISTEE — Joseph Jerome Dumas, 63, of Manistee, was arraigned in Manistee County’s 85th District Court on Tuesday for several child pornography charges.

Detectives from the Michigan State Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force arrested Dumas on Tuesday for one count of child sexually abusive activity distributing or promoting, five counts of possession of child sexually abusive material and six counts of using a computer to commit a crime.

Dumas turned himself into the court on Tuesday. He posted a $50,000 cash/surety bond.

The investigation began with the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation in August, when North Dakota detectives discovered that Dumas had shared material with a North Dakota resident — a subject of one of their investigations. Dumas is suspected of using the KIK messenger application to distribute child sexually abusive material.

A preliminary examination for Dumas is scheduled for Oct. 10. If convicted, he faces up to 14 years in prison.

Anyone with information regarding possible child sexual exploitation, should report it to the CyberTipline at www.missingkids.org/cybertipline.
