Bartosiewicz on MACUL board

The Michigan Association of Computer-Related Technology Users in Learning (MACUL) announces that Barbara Bartosiewicz is currently serving on the MACUL board of directors. This is her fifth year serving on the board. She is currently a computer coordinator in the Manistee Area Public Schools.

Marina award presented

In a formal ceremony and reception Wednesday at the White House, Mrs. Jimmy Carter met with 123 individuals receiving special recognition for significant environmental contributions. Among those present was Manistee City Manager Chester Glocheski who represented the city in receiving an award for the River Street Marina park.

60 YEARS AGO

Community Chest opens

The Manistee County Community Chest opens its 1957 fund drive today. This year more than ever, it merits county support because more and more activities are taking place in the county. In addition to troops in Manistee, there are boy scouting units in Bear Lake, Onekama, Kaleva, Copemish, Wellston and Eastlake. There is a Girl Scout troop in Bear Lake, in addition to several in Manistee and the surrounding villages. The Salvation Army conducts many activities in the county.

80 YEARS AGO

The Vogue Grill

Work is being completed on the new Vogue Grill, as it will be called, its proprietors, George Lambros and Thomas Drellis, announced today, so that it may be opened next week. The grill, which will furnish 24-hour service, is located in the Beverly building at 387 River Street and will be equipped to serve dinners, luncheons and sandwiches.

Barber shops to close

All barber shops will be closed Friday afternoon between 2 and 3 o’clock to enable the barbers to attend the funeral services for local barber Samuel Chevailer.
